Uzbekistan faces significant environmental challenges and is one of the most climate-vulnerable countries in the world. Aware of the challenge, the Uzbek authorities are making the transition to a green economy one of the axes of their development. CONTEXT The Uzbek authorities have adopted new climate objectives – via the new nationally determined contribution (NDC) presented at COP26 – and a Strategy for transition to a green economy. DESCRIPTION The Green Economy Program aims to support the formulation and deployment of the Green Economy Transition Strategy over a period of five years (2021-26). It is divided into three sub-programs (phases), each backed by public policy budget financing. The second sub-program (2023-24) subject of this operation aims to implement these roadmaps and achieve initial quantitative targets to align the governments budgetary and fiscal choices with the objectives of the Strategy and the NDC. It is divided into three pillars: institutional framework for green growth; green budgetary transition; green investments. |
