Project Name Pacific Islands Regional Oceanscape Program - Second Phase for Economic Resilience: Federated States of Micronesia (FSM PROPER)
Project Detail The objective of the Pacific Islands Regional Oceanscape Program: Second Phase for Economic Resilience for Federated States of Micronesia is to strengthen the shared management of selected Pacific Island oceanic and coastal fisheries, and the critical habitats upon which they depend. There are four components to the project, the first component being oceanic fisheries. This component includes two subcomponents: Strengthening the enabling environment for oceanic fisheries and maximizing the value of oceanic resources to the FSM. The second component is the coastal fisheries. This component supports improved management of coastal fisheries through strengthening institutional and legal capacity. This component includes three subcomponents: strengthening coastal fisheries institutional and legal framework, delivering critical marina infrastructure, and fish processing and value chain addition. the third component is the marine habitats. This component addresses impacts of land-based and marine pollution on coastal and marine ecosystems, which affect the health of fish stocks and fisheries, as well as sanitary conditions. This component includes two subcomponents: environmental protection and marine habitat management, and Improvements to waste management. Finally, the fourth component is the project management. The project has an extensive array of stakeholders and implementing agencies and is set within an FCV country context with capacity and geographic constraints. As such, the Project is investing in robust project management to facilitate timely implementation of activities and to reflect the lessons from implementation of PROP. The Development Objective of the Series of Projects is to strengthen the shared management of selected Pacific Island oceanic and coastal fisheries, and the critical habitats upon which they depend. The Development Objective of the objective is to strengthen stakeholder capacity for regional collaboration and enhanced sector performance in fisheries, and for improved habitat preservation of the Federated States of Micronesia.
