The loan will finance the rehabilitation and upgrade of the 160 MW Kpong hydroelectric dam to protect it against natural disasters, particularly the increasing heavy rain episodes affecting the Volta Lake Basin, from cross-border countries to the North down to the mouth of the river flowing into the Gulf of Guinea. In detail, the project concerns the upstream slopes of the dykes and the 15 spillway gates on the dam generating station.
Objectives
The aim is to ensure the dams structural integrity, resilience and safety of local population in case of flooding.
