| Project Detail | Project Name Grid Enhancement for Sustainable Energy Transition Project (formerly Grid Strengthening Project) Project Number 49450-043 Country / Economy Tonga Project Status Proposed Project Type / Modality of Assistance Grant The project aims to help the Government of Tonga meet its renewable energy target by constructing a new 33 kilovolt (kV) electricity network to evacuate energy from a solar power plant and upgrading a portion of the existing 11 kV network. The project will (i) strengthen the capacity of Tonga Power Limited (TPL) in constructing and maintaining the 33 kV network and (ii) support TPL in developing corporate-level gender policies and action plans. The project aims to significantly reduce Tongas reliance on fossil fuels, enhance the disaster resilience of its power grid, and demonstrate a steadfast commitment to combating climate change. |
