Project Detail |
The project aims to modernize the solid waste management system of Grand Nokoué in Benin, a region that includes 5 municipalities with an estimated population of 2.73 million inhabitants. This operation is the result of the "Clean Oceans Initiative", a joint effort for the development and implementation of sustainable projects reducing ocean pollution, with a particular focus on plastic waste. This is a project with several components. The latter, identified at this stage, are as follows: 1. The design and construction of sorting units at 60 municipal collection points ("PR"). 2. The construction of 4 sorting centers, which will be located in the municipalities of Adjarra, Sèmè-Podji, Abomey-Calavi and Ouidah. 3. The construction of 4 composting units, located on the same sites as the sorting centers. 4. The construction of a biogas unit at the Sèmè-Podji sorting center. 5. Environmental security of the technical landfill sites (CET) of Ouèssè and Takon.
Objectives
The project will: a) develop the use of source separation of recyclable materials (paper/cardboard, plastic, glass, metal, etc.) at the household level of Grand Nokoué; b) build facilities for sorting recyclable products; c) develop composting and biogas facilities for biodegradable waste; d) set up gas and leachate management systems in existing landfills.
