Heavy rains in April and early May caused flooding in several districts across the country, particularly in Afar, Amhara, Central Ethiopia, Oromia, Sidama, Somali, South Ethiopia, and Tigray regions, according to the Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission (EDRMC). More than 590,000 people are affected and some 95,000 displaced, based on preliminary reports. The provision also includes veterinary service like treatment & vaccine. The death toll due to landslide in Gofa zone in South Ethiopia region has also risen over 300 people and expected to rise as the search for more bodies continued.
Project Objectives
To assist rebuilding the livelihood of the community by considering the undertaking for the provision of different inputs that can directly support the livestock development sub sector that mainly support the livelihood of an entire community in the affected area through restocking, feed and food supply for those most affected in Somali, Afar, Oromia, & South Ethiopia regions pastoralist community using the allocated SRF budget as an emergency assistance. The scale of the impact of the floods and landslide, including displacement and damage to public infrastructure, houses and cropland will be further clarified once the ongoing and planned multi-agency assessments are completed. |
