Digital twinning on climate challenges in the Mediterranean
The National Technical University of Athens’ School of Surveying Engineering and Geo-informatics offers students a high-level education in the applied science of rural and surveying engineering. The EU-funded MeDiTwin project aims to enhance its research capacity and raise the school’s international presence. The project will leverage the expertise of leading global partners in AI for earth observation, focusing on climate change challenges in the Mediterranean. It will develop the proposed Mediterranean Digital Twin (MDT), a research tool designed to enhance our understanding of Earth’s processes, particularly in the context of the climate emergency, concentrating on modelling climate extremes and their impacts in the Mediterranean.
MeDiTwin harnesses the global scientific leadership of advanced partners in AI for Earth Observation, emphasizing physics-guided ML, explainable AI, and causality. It prioritizes an extensive capacity-building agenda, aiming to enhance research capacity and elevate the international standing of NTUAs School of Surveying Engineering and Geoinformatics. This collaboration centers on the development and utilization of the proposed Mediterranean Digital Twin (MDT), a research asset that promises to deepen our understanding of Earths processes, especially in the context of the climate emergency. Our commitment is demonstrated through an innovative research project focused on modeling climate extremes and impacts in the Mediterranean, addressing crucial global challenges related to climate change. |
