The proposed additional financing will be allocated to finance additional components (i) the construction of 22 kilometers of new 500 kilovolt transmission lines between Syrdarya (Uzbekistan) and Sughd (Tajikistan) substations, including rerouting of existing transmission lines; and (ii) the construction of two new line bays at both substations and related works in open switchgears; (iii) capacity building for both countries technical staff, including female students from local technical colleges and universities in Tajikistan.
Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy
The two new 500 kV interconnection points in the countrys north under the ongoing project were planned to operate only for several months of the year. Such limitation was dictated by the technical parameters of the operational regime to ensure the regional grid stability in the adjacent area. During the detailed design, the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contractor Tajik and Uzbek transmission utilities, and the Coordinating Dispatch Center responsible for the operation of CAPS identified a new technical solution that would eliminate this limitation. 22 kilometers of a new 500 kV transmission line between Syrdarya (Uzbekistan) and Sughd (Tajikistan) substations will further increase transmission capacity for power export to CAPS and enable year-round operation of two 500 kV interconnection points planned under the ongoing project. |
