Session 2
The United States and Ocean Conservancy propose to continue working with APEC economies to combat marine plastic pollution and support more sustainable cities by facilitating APEC municipal leaders’ access to information that will help them develop effective waste management and waste reduction systems and marine debris prevention measures. Building on the APEC Clean City Ocean Initiative launched in 2019, this project will provide economy-level leaders with best practices, lessons learned, and policy recommendations based on research findings from the deployment of Dr. Jenna Jambeck’s Circularity Assessment Protocol (CAP) in APEC cities. The CAP looked at inputs, consumption, product design, use, collection, end-of-cycle management, and plastic leakage into the environment. APEC economies will gain: a report based on findings from the deployment of the CAP methodology in APEC cities; a policy toolkit based on research and implementation efforts in APEC cities; and recommendations for the development of further actions for APEC cities. |
