Project Title
Floating Offshore Wind Farms development in APEC economies for both electricity and green hydrogen production
Project Status
Project in Implementation
To align with the ambitious renewable energy and carbon-neutrality targets of APEC economies, our project focuses on fostering new technologies, specifically Floating Offshore Wind (FOSW) Farms among APEC members for electricity and green hydrogen production. FOSW farms offer a strategic solution for APEC economies lacking land space and/or have a deep and/or steep sloping seabed. These plants enhance the security and flexibility of renewable energy systems, providing a means to harness extensive coastal areas for clean energy production. The generated energy can be integrated into domestic grids or utilized for enable the production of green fuels like hydrogen, contributing significantly to greenhouse gas reduction. The project, which is aligned to APEC Peru 2024 Agenda by promoting the use of renewable energy and green hydrogen development, involves (1) pre-seminar report on the current state of development of the FOSW projects in APEC Region; (2) a two-day in-person seminar in Santiago, Chile, addressing FOSW farms development experiences, challenges, and opportunities in APEC economies; and (3) a post-seminar report, which summarizes key findings, policy recommendations, and best practices arised in the seminar. The post-seminar report will be published on the APEC website, facilitating knowledge dissemination, and fostering collaborative efforts in combating climate change. |
