The provision of a sovereign loan of up to €4 million to the Kyrgyz Republic to be on-lent to the city of Osh for the benefit of Municipal Enterprise "Oshgorvodokanal". The proceeds will finance the expansion of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) capacity in the city. The project is expected to be co-financed by a €4 million parallel loan from the European Investment Bank, a €1.3 million investment grant from the Green Climate Fund and (iii) up to €3 million investment grant from the European Union.
Project Objectives
The Project aims to unlock economic growth for the city, addressing environmental issues related to wastewater management by modernising and expanding the existing WWTP by an additional treatment capacity of 40,000 m3 per day. These enhancements will provide significant climate change adaptation benefits, enabling the discharge of high-quality treated effluent into a water-stressed region. Furthermore, the project contributes to climate change mitigation by reducing overall and specific GHG emissions. |
