Target group / Beneficiaries
Direct beneficiaries: The approx. 3,170 direct beneficiaries will include cultural and religious leaders selected from 12 sub-counties (120 cultural and religious leaders will be targeted; 30 female, 90 male), Members of Parliament (MPs) who belong to Uganda Women’s Parliamentary Association (UWOPA) and to specific parliamentary committees of gender and of human rights and the Parliamentary Forum on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) (40; 25 female, 15 males), Justice actors from the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs such as police, prisons and judiciary (35; 20 female, 15 male), national Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) under Legal Aid Service Providers Network (LASPNET) and Uganda Water and Sanitation Network (UWASNET) coordination meetings, Women in the Water User Committees (WUC), members of the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) gender working group (15;10 female, 5 male).
The planned project interventions are expected to reach 236,000 indirect beneficiaries. These will mostly be members of the community (women and men) in the 12 project sub-counties.
Activities
- Coordinate Civil Society Organizations under the Legal Aid Service Providers Network (LASPNET) to strengthen gender mainstreaming.
- Annual issue/policy briefs on annual progress assessment of justice sector reports towards implementing gender priorities.
- Annual gender justice advocacy colloquium to highlight progress and pending concerns for women and girls in the justice sector.
- Training of District Chain-Linked Committees (DCC) on gender, women’s rights and gender-responsiveness.
- Community outreaches by Access to Justice Sub Programme actors.
- Build capacity for the informal justice actors on gender responsiveness and women’s rights
- Dialogues between communities and cultural and religious justice leaders on women’s rights and justice
- Annual accountability review sessions for the informal customary justice actors in the districts
- 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence (GBV) campaign (media)
- Regional Training of Trainers for the Water User Committees (WUCs)
- Training of women in the WUCs
- Publish an annual progress assessment of water sector reports towards implementing gender priorities.
- National accountability colloquiums on women and water.
