Financing from Omega Data Centers, a subsidiary of THD GROUP, for the construction of a 95-bay data center in Reunion.
CONTEXT
In Reunion , the telecommunications market is a dynamic market in which the THD group plays a major role.
Following the demand for new online uses requiring a high-speed connection, THD GROUPs subsidiary, ZEOP, deployed fiber on the island via FTTH (5G) technology. At the end of 2020, ZEOP dominated the Very High Speed ??market by covering 350,000 fiber-eligible homes.
The fixed internet penetration rate now stands at 88%, 2 points higher than that of mainland France.
However, despite its good very high-speed coverage, Reunion Island faces higher internet latency times than mainland France.
The reason: the lack of suitable local data hosting solutions . To remedy this, SAS Omega Data Centers, another subsidiary of THD GROUP, wants to set up the first data center on the island.
DESCRIPTION
The €3.5 million loan granted by the AFD will co-finance the construction and operation of a TIER 3 data center with 95 computer storage bays. It will also co-finance the acquisition of a 4,000 m² plot of land located at the entrance to the city of Le Port.
The data center will consist of a single building, in a simple volume, located to the north of the plot. Its footprint will be 1579 m², for a total surface area of ??1711 m² (including 1456 m² of warehouse and 255 m² of offices). The building will be partially built in R+1 with a roof accessible to technicians on which photovoltaic panels and cold units will be installed .
The computer rooms and technical premises will be built on one level (ground floor). The offices, meeting rooms and storage rooms will be developed on two levels (ground floor and R+1). As the building must be highly secure, the plot will be fenced to prevent the public from accessing it without authorization. The data center will be directly connected to the international METISS submarine cable, only 2.4 km away.
The data center will benefit from ISO27001 and HDS (Health Data Host) certifications issued by the French Digital Health Agency (ASIP Santé).
IMPACTS
The design of the data center will allow:
Promote the development of digital services on Reunion Island and in the region.
Provide a centralized and secure data hosting solution.
Offer a rapid solution with reduced latency, and exemplary from an environmental perspective . |
