ALBIOMA funding for the construction of a boiler dedicated to the combustion of CSR from the treatment of household waste.
CONTEXT
In Reunion , 70,000 tonnes of Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) are produced each year, after successive extractions of organic and inert fractions of waste . Made up of wood, textile and plastic residues, these SRFs are high energy density fuels that currently have no outlets.
Historically established in the French overseas territories, the ALBIOMA group builds and operates energy production plants using biomass, solar energy and geothermal energy. SAS Albioma Bois Rouge (ABR), 100% owned by ALBIOMA, already a partner of the AFD, benefits from this investment program.
To meet the needs of the ABR plant, ALBIOMA aims to build a boiler at the heart of the Bois Rouge industrial site dedicated to the combustion of all the CSR produced in the north-eastern part of the island.
The steam produced by the boiler will feed an existing turbine of the power plant (unit ABR1 undergoing extension work to extend its operating period from 1992 to May 2043). This turbine has recently been changed to allow a double steam intake: either from the future CSR boiler, or from the bagasse/biomass boiler.
The recovery of CSR will therefore replace imported biomass and will contribute to achieving the objective of 72% of household waste treated and recovered.
DESCRIPTION
The financing granted by the AFD of €24.5 million will co-finance the construction of the CSR boiler sized to recover all of the CSR produced in the North-East basin, which has around 325,000 inhabitants, generating 170,000 tonnes/year of household waste (including 70,000 tonnes transformed into CSR).
The CSR boiler will be supplied by trucks from the INOVEST site located near Bois Rouge (approximately 7 km). This boiler will complement the project currently under construction in the South-West basin, led by ILEVA, designed to produce and recover 120,000 tonnes of CSR (approximately 530,000 inhabitants, 290,000 tonnes of waste treated). |
