Project Description
A sovereign loan of up to EUR 100 million to the Republic of Turkey ("Borrower") represented by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, to be on-granted to Gaziantep Water and Sewage Administration ("GASKI"), to finance the construction of Duzbag Drinking Water Treatment Plant (DWTP) with a capacity of 700,000 m3/day and ancillary structures in the City of Gaziantep (the "Project"). The Project will be implemented by GASKI, an affiliated institution of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality ("GMM" or the "City").
Project Objectives
One of the primary challenges in Gaziantep is the insufficient water treatment capacity due to an unprecedented population growth in the last decade. The citys own growth, coupled with hosting a Syrian refugee population of c. 430,000 since 2011, put a significant strain on the citys water resources and infrastructure. The situation is further exacerbated by the influx of c. 150,000 victims from the two magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes which hit 11 provinces (including Gaziantep) in South-Eastern Türkiye on February 6, 2023.
By deploying a new 700,000 m3/d of water treatment capacity, the Project will ensure the provision of healthy and safe drinking water for the current and projected population in Gaziantep. |
