The Digital Transformation and Distribution Network Resilience Project will help Uzbekistan rehabilitate and digitalize 26 critical distribution stations and strengthen the operations of the state-owned distribution company.
CONTEXT
Since 2019, the government has been engaged in a comprehensive sector reform process to meet the rapidly growing demand for energy, improve the quality of services and attract private sector investment. Renewable energy and digital transformation initiatives will require new skills that represent new opportunities for women in the energy sector.
DESCRIPTION
The project will help Uzbekistan rehabilitate and digitalize 26 key distribution substations and strengthen the operations of the Joint Stock Company Regional Electrical Power Networks (JSC REPN), the state-owned distribution company. The project aims to promote social and economic development through the provision of improved electricity services.
The specific objectives are to:
make the electricity supply more reliable, particularly during peak winter and summer consumption periods;
improving womens employment and income through energy by creating job opportunities in digitalized substations;
Strengthen institutional capacities in sustainability and resilience with training of JSC REPN staff on operation and maintenance of digital substations to manage distribution network overloads. |
