Project Detail |
The French Development Agency (AFD) is supporting the town of Lamentin and the development company DEFIA in its urban renovation project, “Lamentin Grand Cœur”.
CONTEXT
The “Lamentin Grand Coeur” project is initiated by the city of Lamentin, a major crossroads for Martinique, integrating air, sea and road exchanges. This project aims to transform the historic center and the Place dArmes district to strengthen biodiversity, low carbon, and adaptation to climate change through environmentally friendly urban densification. The requalification of urban wastelands to accommodate health and well-being islands is also a priority.
DESCRIPTION
The project is deployed on several axes: the Calebassier Concerted Development Zone (ZAC), the reconversion of the old hospital into a space for innovation and well-being, and several other sites for integrated urban development. It provides for the creation of social housing, rainwater management, the preservation of biodiversity, and a series of measures aimed at reducing the ecological footprint of constructions.
IMPACTS
The project expects to boost the local economy by creating new spaces for businesses and social well-being. It aims to make Lamentin an example of a sustainable and biophilic city, thus improving the quality of life and attracting more residents and investments. Ecological management and the reduction of soil artificialization are key environmental results expected. |
