Project Detail |
The AFD supports the action of the footballer Rai through his foundation Gol de Letra, in favor of the development of fundamental know-how among socially vulnerable young people, in the cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
CONTEXT
In Latin Americas largest country, the right to education is not a reality for hundreds of thousands of young people. Children in poor neighborhoods on the outskirts of cities, the "favelas," are most at risk of dropping out of school early.
Marked by the principle of French equality of opportunity during his time at Paris-Saint-Germain, the former footballer Raí founded the Gol de Letra foundation in 1998 with the aim of providing insight into Brazilian social transformations by advocating the establishment of an egalitarian society.
It has 9 ongoing programs in the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro that reach more than 4,000 young people per year, based on the organization of sports activities alongside educational, cultural, academic guidance, tutoring, development of basic skills and professional training programs. In a country where students only attend school for half a day a day, Gol de Letra therefore uses the beneficiaries free time to complete their education.
DESCRIPTION
Through this partnership, AFD is contributing to the scaling up of Gol de Letras action in Brazil, in favor of education and the inclusion of young people through sport, 25 years after the creation of the Foundation. This will involve financing their French association to support the development of the activities of the Brazilian Foundation through two components:
Support for an impact assessment study of Gol de Letra programs to analyze the effects of sports integration projects on Brazilian youth;
The recruitment of an international solidarity volunteer within the foundation to nourish the link between the Brazilian structure and the French association and support the development of activities in Brazil. |
