The aim of the Last Mile Connectivity Project (LMCP) is to increase universal access to electricity for rural Kenyan households.
CONTEXT
To achieve universal access in Kenya in remote areas, the Kenyan Power Lighting Company (KPLC) aims to connect 100% of Kenyan homes to the national grid.
DESCRIPTION
This project is part of the Kenyan governments Last Mile Connectivity Programme aimed at removing barriers to accessing electricity by connecting every household and customer within 600m of the current transformer.
The aim of this project is to provide access to electricity to 1.4 million Kenyans.
The project will connect 280,000 homes across 32 counties.
The project has two components:
An investment component to extend the medium and low voltage lines of the distribution network, distribution transformers and final connection to homes;
Capacity Building of Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC). |
