Project Detail |
AFD and the European Union join efforts to support the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh
in their ambitious project of continuous water supply for the whole city of Chandigarh.
To face these challenges, Chandigarh wishes to renovate its drinking
water supply system, improve its management, improve the
relationship between users and the water service, and in particular
reduce their consumption, in order to achieve a continuous supply.
This change will have positive impacts on water resources (gradual
decommissioning of boreholes), and on climate change
(improvement of the resilience of population and of the system to the
impact of climate change, and reduction of greenhouse gases
emissions), and on the reduction of gender inequalities.
The project is structured into five components:
• Component 1: renovation of the drinking water supply system (transfer, treatment, storage)
• Component 2: partial renewal (around 25%) and restructuring of the distribution network.
• Component 3: Gradual improvement to a continuous supply leveraging the expertise of the new network
operator to identify and repair leaks, and improve network performance.
• Component 4: Technical assistance and capacity building for the Municipal Corporation.
• Component 5: Information, education, and change-management support to end-users |
