Project Detail |
On May 26, 2024, Cyclone Remal struck Bangladesh causing storm surges reaching 8 to 12 feet above normal levels. Within hours, it triggered widespread flooding and caused extensive damage to houses, infrastructure, and agriculture. These events affected an estimated 4.6 million people and left 800,000 people displaced. With GAC’s support, the Canadian Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) are working to save lives and help reduce the suffering of people affected by the cyclone. Project activities include: (1) providing multi-purpose cash to meet basic needs; (2) distributing in-kind relief items; and (3) providing emergency healthcare and protection services, including mental health and psychosocial support. |
