Project Detail |
Project Name
FPEBL Rooftop Solar Power Project
Project Number
57086-001
The Project will develop, construct, and operate a portfolio of rooftop solar projects installed on commercial and industrial (C&I) buildings of leading corporates in Bangladesh with a total capacity of up to 50-megawatt peak (MWp) with each underlying project ranging from 0.3-MWp to 5MWp.
Objectives and Scope
Bangladeshs renewable energy target aims to increase its renewable energy share to 40% of total energy by 2041, but renewables accounted for only 4.1% of total generation capacity. Limited land availability and land acquisition issues pose a major bottleneck for scaling renewable energy projects in Bangladesh rooftop solar offers a feasible solution to increase solar power generation and has significant potential to supply countrys energy needs. The project will establish a bankable precedent that can help catalyze further private sector participation in Bangladeshs rooftop solar subsector.
Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy
The project is consistent with ADBs Strategy 2030, which includes (i) addressing remaining poverty and reducing inequalities, (ii) accelerating progress in gender equality and womens empowerment, and (iii) tackling climate change, building climate and disaster resilience, and enhancing environmental sustainability as operational priorities. The project is also consistent with ADBs country partnership strategy for Bangladesh, 2021-2025, as the project will help foster a reliable energy supply to improve energy security and promote the use of renewable energy sources. |
