Project Description
The provision of a sovereign-guaranteed loan of up to KZT 50.3 billion (€105.2 million equivalent) for the benefit of the Karaganda Su for the modernisation of a wastewater treatment plant. The loan will be used to finance the following Projects Priority Investment Programme: (i) the construction of a new WWTP with the capacity of 500,000 population equivalent (P.E.), including the modernisation of a sewage pumping station; and (ii) the construction of sludge treatment facilities, including anaerobic digestion unit and facility to produce heat and electricity from biogas generated by the anaerobic digestion.
Project Objectives
The objective of the project is to improve the quality of wastewater treatment services. The project will be implemented in line with the national and the EU standards for urban wastewater treatment, the EU requirements for sewage sludge management, the EU Best Available Techniques (BAT) for such facilities and the EU taxonomy requirements. Once implemented, the project will also lead to a reduced level of odour and substantially reduce the GHG emissions associated with waste water treatment. |
