Location: Uzbekistan Project number: 54421 Business sector: Energy Notice type: State Environmental category: A Approval date: 24 Jul 2024 Status: Exploratory PSD disclosed: 21 May 2024 Project Description The Bank is considering to provide an up to US$ 80 million loan to finance the construction of a 230 km 500 kV overhead transmission line between the settlements of Sarimay in the Khorezm region and Muruntau in the Navoi region. The Project will be implemented by Joint-Stock Company National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan (NEGU). Project Objectives The implementation of the project shall improve reliability, efficiency and stability of the transmission network as well as the quality and security of electricity supply. The transmission line will facilitate the interconnection of two different power areas of Uzbekistans power system: north-western, the area with one of the highest renewable energy potential in the country and located in a remote area with limited transmission capacity, and south-western. The project will also help balance the load and address bottlenecks in the transmission grid. |
