Designing a four-level interchange that includes 48 lane miles and 46 new bridges in Miami.
Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and MDX needed a premier team to design and construct the second largest highway project in Florida history, so they turned to Stantec to help plan the process. This design-build-finance project involves major improvements to a 16 mile corridor that is one of the most heavily traveled corridors in the county.
As the final and largest section of the 12 part S.R. 826 improvement program, including improvements to S.R. 826 and S.R. 836, this included two major intersecting expressways.
Our transportation engineering team is designing a four level interchange that includes 48 lane miles, 46 new bridges and three service interchanges. A challenge in any multi-level interchange reconstruction project is the Maintenance of Traffic (MOT). We are the lead firm designing the MOT for the project. The MOT was developed using five zones with integrated construction sequencing. Extensive coordination with the construction joint venture lead and using construction scheduling led to the development of the MOT master plan. Our innovative design was heralded by FDOT as it reduced 1,335 days of closures from the expressways to major arterials in the county. |
