Improving public transit service and mobility in Denver
With the economic boom Denver is experiencing, the city is searching for new ways to meet transportation demand. This new rail line gives residents a unique opportunity to live near public transportation and will allow developers to build transit-oriented communities around it.
As the lead designer on Phase 1 of Denver Regional Transportation District’s North Metro Rail Line, Stantec designed the $350 million, 13.3-mile first phase. This 18.5-mile electrified commuter rail line connects Denver Union Station to North Adams County, increasing mobility for Denver-area residents.
One of the biggest elements of this project is an 8,500-foot-long elevated track to carry trains over a critical segment of rail, road, irrigation, and environmental conflicts. The North Metro Rail Line also includes the addition of six commuter rail stations in the first phase—and a total of eight stations at design completion—with associated parking and multimodal access integrated with RTD’s bus transit system. The end goal: to seamlessly integrate Denver’s existing public transit system with the new rail extension providing greater mobility for people to get to home, to work, and beyond. |
