Guercif-Nador Highway Project consist of the construction of a Highway that is part of the development of the major industrial port complex of NADOR WEST MED (NWM) in the Oriental region of Kingdom of Morocco. This road infrastructure will connect the Port of Nador West Med to the Moroccan highway network. With this operation, the African Development Bank is strengthening its support for the Kingdom of Morocco in carrying out this major integrated programme, following the financing of the NWM Port construction project (ongoing). The project comprises three (3) main components : (i) Construction of the highway (2*2 lanes over 105 km) and related improvements ; (ii) Operating system, signalling and safety equipment; (iii) Project Management which covers: Assistance of the Project Owner, Environmental and social Management, Project Management and Project accounts Audit.
Project Objectives
The strategic objective of the Guercif – Nador Highway Project is to improve transport and access conditions in the Project Intervention Zone, in particular, to serve the new Nador West Med Port. From a sector standpoint, the project will contribute to the development of infrastructure for Morocco’s various means of transport, in order to meet the needs of passenger and freight transport by 2040.
Beneficiaries
The project will benefit directly to the population of the area of its influence that is the Oriental Region, especially the provinces of Guercif, Driouch and Nador. The highway infrastructure, which is the focus of this project, will also help to open up and promote the economy of the pre-Rif region, by providing a high-capacity road link which will become part of the countrys national highway network, and which reinforces the country’s highway network. The projects completion will promote urban development in the towns directly served by it. Indeed, the towns of Nador, Guercif, Driouch, Saka and other urban areas will be positively impacted by this highway. |
