A revitalized teaching hospital
Expanding to embrace expand community services and partnerships.
Montfort Hospital has many functions. It is a healthcare facility, a centre for post-secondary learning, and a French-Canadian cultural institution. The new east and west wings have expanded these functions while improving the quality of both patient care and the work environment. The redevelopment also introduced a unique new partnership with the Department of National Defense (DND). The Canadian Forces Support Unit-Ottawa relocated to the Montfort site where the hospital now provides clinical and support services for DND.
Stantec’s design team chose to organize the additions around four courtyards. As a result, patients, visitors, and staff can enjoy sunlight throughout the hospital. The organization around courtyards also allows flexibility for future changes to the site.
As the prime consultant on the build-finance delivery team, Stantec provided architectural and equipment planning services on a fast-paced schedule. Because the hospital remained active during construction, the team employed a phased approach, as well as extensive infection and prevention control measures to keep everyone safe. |
