Local, site-based construction management and inspection services support pipeline companies during a major transit expansion
Better together—facilitating pipeline modifications to keep a transit plan on schedule.
The Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) is a billion-dollar investment to expand transit in Toronto. The new 11-kilometre LRT line crosses five pipelines that required replacement because of increased stress placed on them by the expanded LRT line. The pipelines, located in the same right-of-way, are owned by three different companies. Public transport in the region is managed by Metrolinx, so everyone had to work together to stay on track.
Years of experience managing complex scopes and strong relationships with the pipeline operators positioned our team to help Metrolinx achieve its vision of transforming transit—through our construction management and inspection services. Leveraging real-time data-sharing technology, we provided construction oversight, factoring in issues specific to each pipeline—such as pipeline outages and traffic accommodation plans—to keep traffic moving, construct pipeline crossings, and reduce the impact on the public during construction. We brought together Imperial Oil Limited, Trans-Northern Pipelines Inc., and Sun-Canadian Pipe Line Limited, along with Metrolinx. The united team completed the pipeline replacement project under budget and on time, allowing construction of the Finch West LRT to proceed to its next phase.
Through a coordinated approach, we were able to facilitate the required pipeline modifications to support Metrolinx’s plan to improve commuting for residents in high-priority neighborhoods without delay. |
