Innovative designs that make international travel easy
A new innovative terminal for International travel.
George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) needed to develop additional facilities to support unprecedented growth in international air traffic. Stantec is the managing partner of the Houston Aviation Alliance (HAA) Joint Venture, and one of two leading program management support services firms on the IAH Terminal Redevelopment Program (ITRP).
The IAH Program Plan will resolve current and future capacity constraints in the central terminal area and significantly improve the overall international passenger experience. It includes refurbishing the existing Mickey Leland International Terminal (MLIT), remodeling Federal Inspection Services (FIS), and expanding capacity and reliability of the baggage handling system (BHS). Demolition of the Terminal D/E parking garage will create a processor where all international ticketing counters, security checkpoint lanes, and baggage claims will be consolidated. Our critical challenge is to construct and renovate the terminal and concourse while the airport maintains safe 24/7 operations for the traveling public.
To meet the challenge, discussions were conducted with the owner’s key stakeholders, airlines, tenants, and concessions. Our team collaborated with other firms to offer a comprehensive and effective solution in design and execution. Altogether, this will result in the desired improvements in airline operations and a satisfactory final product. |
