Project Detail |
oversized load hauling a wind turbine blade was traveling eastbound on SR 14, when it struck and damaged the underside of the Lieser Road overpass, located about 4 miles east of Interstate 5 (I-5), causing significant damage to the structure. The impact exposed rebar and scattered concrete debris along the highway below. Upon inspection of the overpass, bridge crews determined that six out of the seven bridge girders needed repairs and the seventh bridge girder located on the outer eastern side of the overpass, needed to be replaced. As a result, the shoulders were closed due to the severity of the damage.
This project aims to repair six girders on the southern span over eastbound SR 14, while also replacing the seventh outermost girder on the eastern side of the bridge. Additionally, the guardrail on the southeast corner of the bridge will be replaced to meet current height and safety requirements. Once bridge girder repairs are completed and the damaged bridge girder is replaced, travelers will have full use of the overpass, including use of the shoulders for pedestrians and cyclists. |
