Project Detail |
This operation concerns the Chimoio Inclusive Urban Sanitation Project. The proposed project will be the first investment in the water and sanitation sector in Mozambique approved by the Bank since November 2010. It will ultimately contribute to a reduction in the incidence of water-borne diseases, reduce river and soil pollution and promote the reuse of treated water and sludge for agricultural purposes. The people of Chimoio will be able to use better-quality, climate-resilient sanitation facilities, have their wastewater treated safely and benefit from a wastewater treatment plant that treats faecal matter from the municipalitys on-site sanitation facilities. The project will comprise three components: i) development of a sanitation infrastructure; ii) design studies for the water supply to the towns of Cuamba and Lichinga; iii) institutional strengthening and project management.
Project Objectives
The Project Development Objective is to provide access to improved sanitation services to the population of Chimoio. Specifically, the project will improve and increase access to the sewerage network as well as to public and household sanitation facilities, and the municipality will benefit from a new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). |
