Development of technical capacities in Central America and the Caribbean in surveillance and preparation for prevention and response to the threat of African Swine Fever and other hemorrhagic diseases of pigs. Specific objectives: 1) Characterization and analysis of regional capacities (Central America and the Caribbean) and identification of needs through the results of the application of evaluation tools that help identify the activities to be implemented to confront the dynamics of the ASF situation and other swine hemorrhagic diseases. 2) Support the strengthening, development, adoption and implementation of plans, legislation, regulations and other governance measures that use best practices for the prevention and control of animal diseases, especially ASF. 3) Develop and improve training of ASF surveillance capabilities in accordance with regional ASF surveillance plans in sample collection, transportation and preparation; laboratory diagnosis, epidemiological analysis and research; and reporting. 4) Support One Health approaches, especially at livestock-wildlife interfaces, to prevent and control ASF, including through engagement with international, national and subnational authorities; border control, law enforcement and defense agencies; and public-private partnerships, and support regional, national and subnational efforts to coordinate the public and/or private sectors in mitigating transboundary disease threats, especially ASF. 5) Strengthen biological risk management practices throughout the value chain of the swine industry, the commercial shipping industry, the tourism industry and veterinary services in participating countries. 6) Facilitate open and transparent communication on ASF and other swine diseases between veterinary services, other government agencies and the private sector throughout the region, and as necessary to comply with WOAH and Codex reporting standards and protocols . |
