The development objective of the Rodrigues Airport Project for Mauritius is to improve air transport access and enhance the climate resilience and productivity of the island of Rodrigues. The project comprises of five components. The first component, infrastructure development will fund the construction of a new airport runway and associated facilities on Rodrigues Island. The second component, technical assistance for project implementation and sector reforms consists of following sub-components: (i) support to aviation sector development; and (ii) support to project implementation. The third component, support Rodrigues’ sustainable integrated development with a particular focus on access to water and food security will support local governments, rural communities, and the private sector on the island of Rodrigues to carry out small key investments and implement a sustainable territorial development strategy for Rodrigues. It consists of following sub-components: (i) strengthening of the local food systems; and (ii) supporting improved water management and development. The fourth component, supporting the sustainable development of the tourism sector in Rodrigues consists of following sub-components: (i) supporting tourism promotion and attraction of investments; (ii) skills development to support the tourism sector; (iii) supporting sustainable tourism among Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs); and (iv) strengthening sustainable tourism infrastructure. The fifth component, contingent emergency support (CERC) will facilitate access to rapid financing by allowing for the reallocation of uncommitted project funds in the event of a natural disaster, either by a formal declaration of a national emergency or upon a formal request from the government.
