Following the first National Coordination Body (NCB) meeting for the Country Programme (CP) for inclusive and sustainable industrial development in Armenia 2022-2026 held on 6 June 2022, the delegations of UNIDO and Armenia agreed to organize working-level follow-up consultations between UNIDO technical experts and national focal points from respective line Ministries to identify concrete project proposals to be developed and identify potential resource mobilization opportunities. In IQ2023, UNIDO held technical consultations with representatives of the Ministry of Economy of Armenia, which resulted in a letter from His Excellency Mr. Vahan Kerobyan, Minister of Economy of Armenia (dated 14 April 2023), expressing interest in UNIDO’s technical assistance and support to promote digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Armenia. The present project proposal was elaborated taking into account national development priorities and specific needs of the Government of Armenia in fulfilling strategic tasks providing a concrete step-by-step intervention that would allow policymakers, ecosystem support institutions, SMEs active in ICT/innovation and undergoing a digital transition to benefit from internationally recognized and tested upscaling models leading to visible results achieved in short- and medium-term. The project will contribute to the implementation of the Strategic Action Plan for the development of Digital Economy in Armenia and help reinforce efforts of the Government of Armenia in driving the digital transformation of SMEs in target sectors by producing needs-driven digital upgrading solutions and development roadmaps to facilitate technology and knowledge transfer leading to improved business processes, productivity and international competitiveness, thereby building momentum towards a full-fledged digital economy and innovation-intensive entrepreneurial ecosystem. The Fund for Digital Initiatives of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) is considered to become a partner of UNIDO and the Republic of Armenia in funding and consulting the project. |
