Designing highways for an efficient and safe commute
Traffic engineering to accommodate high volumes of vehicles and improves overall safety for drivers
After experiencing congestion and traffic issues along the I-88 Tollway in DuPage County, the Illinois Tollway decided to expand the eight mile corridor and reconstruct and rehabilitate several interchanges. Stantec led a team of six consultants providing design on both the 1.5 mile lane expansion and reconstruction of several interchanges. The resulting tollway provides efficient traffic flow to accommodate high volumes and improves overall safety of tollway drivers.
While managing the project, Stantec provided design coordination, traffic control and lighting plans between design sections, and plan submittal reviews while monitoring progress to insure all phases of the project were completed on time and within budget. We met with multiple agencies and municipalities to expedite review and approvals. Stantec also provided planning and design services, including design surveys, structural borings, noise and air quality analysis, utility relocation, drainage, traffic control, and construction schedules.
By preparing a wrap-up insurance cost estimate and scheduling final construction staging plans, the Illinois Tollway is well prepared to embark on a well-grounded construction program. |
