The use of certified seed for basic grains in production is limited, due to the low sale of seeds with high yield potential and adaptability, which leads to importation. However, there is a reduced supply of seedlings, seed potatoes, runners and crabs of different crops that support food security and income generation. The project will increase the supply of basic, registered and certified seed, seedlings, genetic material and breeding stock to satisfy national demand. Similarly, it is executed by DICTA/SAG, the Honduran seed industry and multipliers; where it will directly benefit national producers and the population in general, due to the increases that will be obtained in their productivity.
General objective:
Increase the production capacity of basic grain seeds and other food items with high yield potential, adaptation and tolerance to the main pests and diseases present in the country, through the implementation of operational and administrative mechanisms that ensure transparency, agility and competence in the acquisitions and contracting of the DICTA Seed Production Program.
Specific objectives:
Strengthen and expand the capacity of the SAG/DICTA Seed Program to produce and meet the demand for basic grain seeds of small national producers, through assistance and facilitation of the processes of acquisition of inputs, materials and services*.
Expand DICTAs capacity to produce seed potatoes, sesame seeds, sweet potatoes, fruit tree seedlings, vegetative materials (stolons, crabs, cuttings) and breeding stock of minor species of interest for food and commercial security.
Establish and streamline the operation of DICTAs Special Seed Fund* (FES).
Increase the technical and administrative capacity of DICTA to produce basic grain seed of the basic, registered and certified categories in the Experimental Stations and with seed multipliers. |
