Project Name |
Reducing pesticide residues in Latin America through biopesticides and other integrated pest management options to boost agricultural trade. |
Project Detail |
Countries that export agricultural products face limited access to international markets due to difficulties in complying with regulations related to maximum residue limits for chemical pesticides. For this, this project focuses on developing research and extension and training tools to find complementary biological alternatives in pest control in order to stay in export markets. Likewise, this initiative is the third chapter of a global project that began in Asia and Africa, which will be implemented in 11 Latin American countries and will work with the official and private sectors and academia as an inter-institutional strategy.
General objective:
Promote the use of biopesticides and other integrated pest management options in export crops from Latin America and the Caribbean, to improve compliance with maximum pesticide residue limits and thus facilitate agricultural trade.
Specific objectives:
Promote the development of a Regional Research and Training Center on pesticide and biopesticide residues in the Latin American and Caribbean region.
Promote national actions in support of regulatory harmonization on biopesticides.
Promote the generation of data and the knowledge to interpret them, through waste mitigation studies.
Promoted a national strategy in the participating countries on phytosanitary solutions for the control of pests in minor crops.
Developed an extension program for producers aimed at research and extension institutions. |
