In light of the significant impact that COVID-19 has had in the region and beyond, APEC has responded extensively by suggesting a number of mitigating and recovery measures and sound economic policies that have fostered employment, economic productivity and innovation despite the crisis. An important element of any such measure or economic policy is the underlying legal framework that supports recovery efforts and increases the preparedness of economies for any future health crisis. Viet Nam, jointly with the UNCITRAL Secretariat, proposes to hold a two-hour policy dialogue within EC1 of 2023 on the impact of COVID-19 on trade-related legal infrastructure, lessons learned and best legislative practices, with the aim of devising an emergency kit for economies as well as public and private stakeholders in the event of a future health crisis that could similarly impact supply chains and trade flows. |
