It is designed using an integrated approach and also to enhance the region’s wealth and opportunities. This will strengthen its impact on development, build the resilience of the population, and help transform the rural environment thanks to the resulting growth. The project comprises: (A) the development of the Hamdara-Wacha-Dungass-Nigerian Border Road, including environmental protection measures; (B) related works, particularly the rehabilitation/construction of socio-economic infrastructure, the development of 150 km related rural roads and 5 km roads in Dungass town, support for agro-pastoral value chains (construction of farmers’ houses and livestock vaccination parks, establishment of dairy units, etc.) and support for women and young people; (C) institutional support and project management. Project Objectives The project’s overall objective is to: (i) improve the countrys internal and external accessibility; and (ii) increase sub-regional trade, while contributing to the transformation of rural areas. Specifically, the project aims to: (i) reduce travel time and vehicle operating costs; (ii) cut the cost of transporting goods; (iii) ensure the availability of transport services and facilitate the connectivity of agrosylvo-pastoral areas, as well as mining production areas; and (iv) improve access to social and administrative services. Beneficiaries The project will benefit the population of its area extended to the departments is estimated at 1,988,209 inhabitants (with 996,568 women). The project also has direct impacts on the border areas population in neighbouring Nigeria. It will involve several socio-professional stakeholders, particularly farmers, agro-pastoralists, pastoralists, traders, transporters, and crafts men and women, in addition to local communities and development institutions, etc.
