Project Detail |
The project aims to strengthen the resilience of the populations of the Tillabéri region in Niger through a multidimensional approach, sensitive to conflicts and climate change, and centered on support for the vegetable protein sector.
CONTEXT
In order to contribute to accelerating the implementation of the Great Green Wall initiative in a severely degraded food security context, AFD launched a call for "crisis and crisis resolution" projects in February 2022 ( APCC) for civil society organizations already present in the eleven countries of the Great Green Wall. The purpose of this APCC is to prevent and mitigate conflicts related to the anthropogenic and/or climatic effect on natural resources, by strengthening the resilience of food systems by supporting plant protein sectors, thus also contributing to the implementation of the initiative for the development of vegetable proteins launched on the occasion of the 6th EU-AU summit. In the target area, despite the productive dynamics around agro-halio-sylvo-pastoral activities which continue to occupy a large majority of workers in rural areas, the food situation in the targeted area is precarious. Structural food insecurity concerns between 10 and 15% of the population according to available estimates.
DESCRIPTION
The project aims to prevent and mitigate conflicts related to the anthropogenic and/or climatic effect on natural resources by strengthening the resilience of food systems through support for plant protein sectors in the Tillabéri region. The project is part of a dual dynamic of reducing climatic, nutritional and security vulnerability and mitigating conflicts around the use of natural resources. |
