The operation consists of an investment loan for urban transport measures to improve the safety and accessibility of pedestrians in Sector 1 of Bucharest.
Objectives
The project, to be implemented between 2022 and 2026 consists of investments aimed to: - reduce traffic speeds via the introduction of elevated pedestrian crossings and traffic calming, and other speed management measures; - increase protection and visibility around schools via the installation and modernisation of fences and road markings and other low-cost road safety measures; - improve signage and visibility via the installation and modernisation of road signs; - increase protection and accessibility of pedestrians via the installation of bollards and pillars along footpaths, and other relevant measures. The project is aligned with the objectives of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan(SUMP) of Bucharest, which highlights the need for investment in road safety, and supports the internal priorities for Sector 1.
Comments
The Municipality of Sector 1 has requested technical assistance from the EIB Advisory Hub to review the scope, location and typology of the interventions proposed.
