The project contributes to the socio-economic integration and self-reliance of people with disabilities and their families through sustainable agriculture initiatives in the Gyumri region of Armenia.
Expected results
At least 20 young PwD, 15 PwD parents and 15 other vulnerable youth from greater Gyumri area (68% female, 32% male, 40% disabled), with a special focus on women, are benefiting from inclusive and equitable training in green agriculture to improve their ability for self-sufficiency and socio-economic integration into the agriculture-related labor market; At least 20 young PwMs (50% female, 50% male, 100% disabled), with a special focus on women, have improved access to the agriculture-related labor market in the Gyumri metropolitan area; At least 60 local partner staff and volunteers (67% female, 33% male) are gender-sensitive and have improved their capacity for gender mainstreaming; The Emili Aregak Center is equipped with the resources and infrastructure to serve as Green Aregak Farm as a model for green farming and PwM socio-economic inclusion; Improved outreach, awareness raising, community participation and collaboration with public and private stakeholders in the Gyumri metropolitan area.
Target group / Beneficiaries
26,430 people will benefit directly and indirectly from the project. 1,430 of these are direct beneficiaries (53% women, 47% men): 20 young adults with disabilities (disabled), 15 parents of disabled people, 15 vulnerable young people, 60 employees and volunteers from the local project partner Caritas Aregak Foundation (CAF) and the Armenian Caritas, 30 agricultural representatives, 500 school children, 40 teachers and 750 parishioners.
Activities
Activities include: training on sustainable agriculture; national study visits to agricultural projects and best practice examples; Promoting access to the agricultural labor market for 20 young PwMs through job coaching, job fairs, awareness workshops, building partnerships with potential employers and providing ongoing support and advice to people with disabilities and their employers;
Awareness training on gender issues and gender mainstreaming in project management; Development of a concept for the sustainable agricultural development of the Emili Aregak Center; Construction of a handicapped accessible and environmentally friendly, passive solar greenhouse; staff training in greenhouse management; organization of information and awareness-raising activities and open farm days; Participation in farmers markets and other external events, social media campaigns, visits and gardening courses for schools and childrens centers and a final harvest festival. |
