Project Detail |
The project aims to sustainably improve food security, support vegetable protein chains and prevent conflicts related to competition for access to natural resources in the provinces of Lake Chad, Hadjer-Lamis and Chari Baguirmi.
CONTEXT
In order to contribute to the acceleration of the implementation of the Great Green Wall initiativein a severely degraded food security context, in February 2022 AFD launched a call for crisis and crisis resolution projects for civil society organizations already present in the eleven countries of the Great Green Wall. The objective: to prevent and mitigate conflicts linked to the anthropogenic and/or climatic effect on natural resources, by strengthening the resilience of food systems by supporting plant protein sectors, thus also contributing to the implementation of the initiative for the development of vegetable proteins launched on the occasion of the sixth European Union-African Union summit. In the targeted area, despite the productive dynamics around agro-halio-sylvo-pastoral activities which continue to occupy a large majority of workers in rural areas, the food situation in the targeted area is precarious. Structural food insecurity concerns between 10 and 15% of the population according to available estimates.
DESCRIPTION
The overall objective of the project is to sustainably improve the food and nutritional security of the populations of the provinces of Chari Baguirmi, Hadjer-Lamis and Lac while strengthening the prevention and resolution of conflicts related to competition for access. to natural resources. Specifically, it aims to:
promote concerted, peaceful and sustainable management of agro-pastoral resources involving all users in the targeted territories;
support a process of economic development of the targeted territories based on the strengthening of family farming systems, the contribution of vegetable protein sectors and the increased participation of women and young people;
promote the capitalization and dissemination of good practices around agroecology and plant protein sectors by providing tools and methods and leading regional consultation.
The project will be led by CCFD-Terre Solidaire, in partnership with the Chadian CSO ACORD Chad, which will be in charge of implementing activities in the field. |
