Project Summary
The air cargo sector entered the COVID-19 pandemic from a period of strong growth and now must overcome various challenges to continue meeting global needs. Air cargo, and the global supply chains that it serves, continue facing challenges including the lack of capacity providing by passenger aircraft, the hindrances to providing connectivity according to evolving business needs, sudden restrictions imposed by governments trying to contain COVID-19 outbreaks, and legacy paper-based systems of information exchange to meet both regulatory and operational requirements. These conditions are due in part to regulatory hurdles that can be addressed through cooperation among APEC economies. This project will convene Member Economies to identify best practices that support the growth of the air cargo sector as the region emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, explore future challenges the sector faces and their possible solutions, as well as produce a report with recommendations to bring greater regulatory alignment and economic contribution of the sector to Member Economies, including potential follow-on projects. |
