Goals: Development cooperation is increasingly using sport for development as a cross-sectoral instrument. Project number: 2019.2005.7 Status: running project Responsible organizational unit: G110 Health, education, social affairs PROJECT DESCRIPTION (EN) Initial situation Sport integrates, moves and educates people. With its professional and voluntary structures, it reaches into all social spheres like hardly any other area, enables participation and creates a feeling of togetherness across ethnic and social boundaries. The 2030 Agenda confirms that sport makes a significant contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The project contributes to several SDGs, including health and well-being (SDG 3), including fair and quality education (SDG 4), gender equality (SDG 5), decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), peace and justice and strong institutions (SDG 16) and partnerships to achieve the goals (SDG 17). The project uses sport to achieve development policy goals. Sport refers to all physical activities that promote physical and mental well-being and social interaction - from popular and leisure sports to games and exercise to traditional culture and forms of expression such as dance. Sport can have a positive effect on the support of children and young people in particular. They get to know fair and tolerant behavior, strengthen their self-esteem and develop a willingness to take on responsibility. Sport also teaches life skills – skills that help to master difficult life situations and to develop perspectives for ones own future. The German Federal Government has recognized this potential and is focusing on Sport for Development as a cross-cutting theme of German development cooperation (DC) in order to achieve other development policy goals, including education, employment, the economy, health and in the context of flight and migration |
