Main Roads Western Australia is undertaking project development activities for the final (Stage 4) 112 kilometre link in the 270 kilometre Karratha to Tom Price Road in the Pilbara Region of Western Australia.
Stage 4 extends from Roebourne Road to Nanutarra-Munjina Road on a new alignment that traverses two major floodplains and the Hamersley Ranges with significant technical challenges in an area rich with 40,000 years of Traditional Ownership and current mining development.
The project is being executed in compliance with the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia’s Planning Framework (version 2.0) with rigorous consideration of Economic, Social and Environmental risks and opportunities. Cardno, now Stantec have provided the following services in support of the ISCA imperatives and project development:
> Execution Team Leadership to the MRWA Project Manager for Traffic & Safety and Alignment Options Assessment;
> Rapid and detailed road corridor options multi-criteria assessment;
> Aerial imagery, mining lease mapping & videography for project-wide GIS information model;
> Site Access Strategy (desktop and on-site inputs) and associated GIS mapping;
> Hydrological modelling, validation and mapping, including climate change impacts, a focus on risk & serviceability lead design inputs and resilience measures for extreme event survivability;
> Concept Road Design leadership for 60km of the alignment;
> Road concept optioneering for refinement and challenging of traditional design parameters to ensure a robust and fit-for-purpose design;
> Guide Sign and Way-Finding Strategy for the 270km MRDH alignment;
> Heavy Vehicle Network and Over Size – Over Mass network continuity and Stakeholder engagement;
> Level of Service & Overtaking Lane Assessment; and
> Park Bay & Rest Area Strategy. |
