Project Detail |
The Fond Rousseau ravine crosses residential areas of the municipality of Schoelcher. The latter wishes to continue the studies and work that had been undertaken for the protection and development of the banks of the ravine in order to prevent the risks associated with its potential overflow and its lack of development.
CONTEXT
Schoelcher is a town on the Caribbean coast of 20,000 inhabitants. It is crossed by the ravine of Fonds Rousseau. Mindful of the risks involved, the city wishes to invest in controlling them. The protection of the banks of Fonds Rousseau is part of the continuity of the measures undertaken by the municipality and therefore of the development of the Flood Risk Management Plan (PGRI), the Master Plan for sanitation and the management of water (SDAGE) and the local urban plan (PLU).
DESCRIPTION
The project consists of carrying out hydrological studies for the protection of the banks of Fonds Rousseau in the municipality of Schœlcher. The Agency will provide its financial support within the framework of project management assistance.
The Fond Rousseau ravine originates in the new suburban area of ??rue Bois-Rivière, crosses a residential area and then the college of Terreville. In 2010, the ravine was the subject of downstream bank protection works. The hydrological studies will make it possible to define the relevant actions to be carried out in order to ensure sustainable management of the banks.
IMPACTS
AFDs participation in the financing of studies for the protection of the banks of the Fonds Rousseau will enable the municipality to undertake the research necessary for the implementation of a safe and effective solution.
This will help control the risks of overflow and clean up the environment for the inhabitants : end of the proliferation of rodents and mosquitoes, better water quality. |
