SHORT DESCRIPTION:
Overall goal
The aim of the project is to contribute to increased resilience of refugees and host communities through fair access to adequate water, sanitation and sanitation in the Baalbek district in Lebanon. The increase in the amount of EUR 250,000 enables, among other things, additional measures in response to Covid-19. (Contribution to SDG 6, GAP II objectives 10, 13, 16).
Expected results
1) Improved equal access to clean water for women and men or girls and boys for Syrian refugees and host communities at institutional and individual level
2) Improved equal access for women and men or girls and boys for Syrian refugees or host communities to appropriate and gender-sensitive sanitary facilities at institutional and individual level
3) Increased knowledge as well as increased hygiene and environmental awareness among women and men as well as girls and boys in the target communities
Target group / beneficiaries
This project will directly reach 6,400 people in the villages of Qsarnaba, Haouch Er Rafqa, Temnine Et Tahta, Misraya and Beit Chama in the Baalbek district. The project is primarily aimed at ten schools and two health centers, to which both Lebanese host communities and Syrian refugee students and patients have access. These facilities give the target groups access to clean drinking water, adequate sanitary facilities and hygiene training.
Activities
Assessment of needs or performance assessment of existing water sources, rehabilitation and improvement of the water supply in schools and basic health centers, improvement of community water management and the water network, installation of water tanks for households in informal tent settlements, needs analysis of existing sanitary facilities in institutions, construction of appropriate latrines for households in tent settlements , Site improvement measures to reduce the risk of flooding, hygiene awareness-raising (also with regard to Covid-19) at community level and in schools, large-scale cleaning campaigns, expansion of cash donations for hygiene products for families who have moved in, distribution of materials to improve waste management, establishment of WASH committees at community level ,Establishment of WASH and environmental protection clubs in schools. |
