Project Detail |
The Metro Advertising Revenue Funded Electric Vehicle Charging Trial will deploy 21 of Jolt’s Electric Vehicle (EV) charging and advertising panels in car parks and public spaces in Campbelltown City Council, Charles Sturt Council, Marion Council and Port Adelaide Enfield Council Adelaide, South Australia.
Need
The Metro Advertising Revenue Funded Electric Vehicle Charging Trial is designed to test and develop a model for advertising supported charging in Australia. If the model is successful, it may lead to an increase in EV charging infrastructure, which could help to reduce range anxiety for prospective purchasers of EVs in Australia – a key issue in consumer studies.
Action
South Australia has a high rate of renewable energy supply, which has driven interest in using EVs. The project will test an innovative business model where drivers can recharge at Jolt EV chargers at no cost (for a specified period), with the costs covered by revenues earned through the sale of advertising displayed on the charging units.
Outcome
The project’s business model has the potential to enable the roll out of public EV charging infrastructure (a key facilitator of EV adoption) in advance of high-volume EV sales. Learnings from this model will be shared through ARENA’s knowledge sharing channels. |
